A 1960s London band’s rise (and fall) is told through The Kinks’ hit songs in the UK tour of this Olivier Award-winning musical. Sunny Afternoon follows the journey of The Kinks from their working-class beginnings in Muswell Hill through the turbulent heights of fame. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Britain, the musical explores the band’s artistic breakthroughs, family tensions, industry battles, and cultural impact. Iconic songs such as “You Really Got Me,” “Lola,” and “All Day and All of the Night” shape the narrative of ambition, success, and its costs.

The show features music and lyrics by Ray Davies, founding member of The Kinks, and a book by Joe Penhall (Blue/Orange, Mood Music). The original story is also by Ray Davies, with direction by Edward Hall (Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell, Chariots of Fire).
