From New Zealand’s EBKM, this sharp, synth-filled show explores the science and soul of heartbreak.
Heartbreak Hotel follows the emotional and physiological journey of a woman navigating the aftermath of a breakup. Blending personal narrative, scientific insight, and pop culture, the performance investigates what heartbreak does to the body and mind. Through classic breakup songs, sharp humor, and a live synth soundtrack, the piece examines how love leaves its mark—both emotionally and physically.
The show is created and performed by acclaimed New Zealand company EBKM, known for their previous work Yes Yes Yes. It arrives at Soho Theatre following appearances at the RISING Festival in Melbourne, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and a national tour of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Combining elements of theatre, music, and spoken word, Heartbreak Hotel offers a multi-dimensional look at loss, resilience, and the shared experience of heartbreak.
