Ballet adaptation of Isherwood's novel with Ed Watson and music by John Grant.
George, a gay, middle-aged professor, mourns the loss of his partner, Jim. Set in 1960s California over a single day, A Single Man follows his quiet search for connection as he grapples with grief, memory, and identity.
Choreographer Jonathan Watkins adapts Christopher Isherwood’s novel into a contemporary ballet with music by Jasmin Kent Rodgman and songs by John Grant, who performs George’s inner voice. Ed Watson dances George’s outer life, sharing the role with Jonathan Goddard.
The creative team includes Oscar-winning costume designer Holly Waddington (Poor Things), set designer Chiara Stephenson, lighting designer Simisola Majekodunmi, and sound designer Emma Laxton. Presented at the Linbury Theatre, the production merges dance, voice, and music.
