Dark comedy exploring chilling interrogations of a writer in a totalitarian state.
Set in an oppressive regime, this black comedy follows writer Katurian as he faces brutal questioning over his macabre short stories—stories that may echo real-life child murders. Alongside him is his brother Michal, while detectives Tupolski and Ariel pursue disturbing connections between fiction and bloodshed.
Under the direction of Michelle Maccarone (known for her incisive staging of The Wolves), the production assembles a strong ensemble cast—including actors portraying Katurian and Michal, as well as a puppeteer and duo playing grim fairy-tale parents—creating tense, stylized depictions of McDonagh’s unsettling narratives.
Presented by The Heights Players, Brooklyn’s longest-running, volunteer-based theatre organization, the show runs for seven performances over two weekends, opening October 10 and closing October 19, 2025, in their intimate downtown venue.
