Set in Rio de Janeiro, The Passion According to Janair centers on the story of Janair, a Black domestic worker navigating a society that renders her invisible. Drawing from Clarice Lispector’s The Passion According to G.H. and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, the piece follows Janair as she confronts layers of systemic oppression rooted in race, gender, and class. Through an introspective and incisive journey, she breaks the silence imposed on her, reclaiming her identity and asserting her presence in a world that has long denied it.
The solo performance is co-written by Brazilian actress and playwright Ana Carbatti and Andressa Furletti, Artistic Director of Group Dot BR. The piece is directed by Furletti, whose work often explores cross-cultural narratives and physical theatre.
