Five generations of one Jewish family confront love, loss, and legacy in the American frontier.
Oklahoma Samovar traces the journey of five generations of a Jewish family whose story begins in 1887, when two Latvian teenagers escape conscription into the Russian Army and become the only Jews to join the Oklahoma Land Run. A century later, a young woman named Emily tries to unravel her late mother’s cryptic wish to have her ashes scattered on a stranger’s farm in a place she has never known. Inspired by the playwright’s own ancestors, the play delves into themes of immigration, assimilation, generational trauma, and the enduring strength of mother–daughter bonds. Spanning love, loss, and survival, it presents a deeply personal yet distinctly American story that reimagines the myths of the frontier through a Jewish lens.
