An immersive self-help seminar unravels into a disorienting examination of identity.
Presented as an experimental self-help seminar, How To Put Down The Weight of Your Past follows two expert facilitators who guide participants through a life-changing program designed to help them release personal burdens. As the session progresses, the boundaries between instruction, performance, and reality begin to shift, raising questions about perception, identity, and trust. The production incorporates immersive elements, with audience interaction possible throughout the performance.
The play is written by Tommy Vines and directed by Madeline Riddick-Seals. Riddick-Seals also serves as scenic and props designer, with lighting design by Gwen Trueblood and sound design by Irene Wang.
