First Warning (1892) is August Strindberg’s only comedy, presented here in its English-language premiere. The play follows Axel and Olga, a couple married for fifteen turbulent years, as they retreat to a rented house in Germany for a winter holiday. Tormented by jealousy, Axel prepares to leave Olga, only for their quarrels and reconciliations to unfold in farcical rounds of argument, confession, and ironic resolution. A bratty young girl named Rosa—both irritating and insightful—serves as the play’s unexpected moral compass, exposing the flaws of the adults around her.

The production is directed and translated by Robert Greer, founder of August Strindberg Rep, a company dedicated to presenting the works of the Swedish playwright in faithful, innovative stagings.
