A bold, satirical musical that reimagines Anne Frank with biting humor and over-the-top inclusivity.
Slam Frank is a new satirical musical that reimagines The Diary of Anne Frank through the lens of hyper-progressive reinvention. When a community theater troupe decides not to “center privileged, straight, white Europeans (who happened to be hiding from Nazis),” Anne’s story is retold as Anita Franco, a pansexual Latinx diarist with a hip-hop flair, alongside Peter Van Daan as a non-binary dancer, and Mister Van Daan as the lone cishet man cast as a villain beyond redemption.
Inspired by a viral 2022 Twitter thread questioning Anne Frank’s “white privilege,” the show explores the intersection of identity politics, inclusivity, and artistic absurdity.
Positioned as both parody and provocation, Slam Frank presents a deliberately heightened, genre-bending take on history, performance, and the extremes of cultural discourse.
