A horror play on grief and girlhood, directed by Vernice Miller, written by Abigail Duclos.
Blood Orange tells the story of Faye, a teenage girl left reeling after the traumatic discovery of her father’s body. As her grief spirals, she pulls her awkward friend Eden into a disturbing yet intoxicating religious rite defined by prayer, blood, and romantic desire. The play examines the intersections of pain, identity, and belief through the lens of adolescent girlhood.
Ana Moioli consistently portrays Eden across casts. The play is directed by Vernice Miller (Obie Award recipient, co-founder of Bronx Repertory Company), with associate direction and choreography by Amelia Estrada. The production team includes Ningning Yang (scenic and props design), Whitney Fabre (costume design), Hayley Garcia Parnell (lighting), Laura Pereira (sound), and Leana Gardella (intimacy coordination and fight choreography).
Produced by Et Alia Theater, an experimental and women-led company, Blood Orange is staged at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre within A.R.T./New York Theatres. The show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission and contains explicit scenes of violence and self-harm. Production design support is provided by the Edith Lutyens and Norman Bel Geddes Design Enhancement Fund, a program of A.R.T./New York.
