Immersive staging by Jack Thorne and Matthew Warchus of Dickens’ holiday classic.
On Christmas Eve, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by four spirits—his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Through these supernatural encounters, Scrooge is forced to confront the consequences of a life lived in greed and emotional isolation. As he witnesses memories and possibilities unfold, he faces a reckoning with time, mortality, and the people he has pushed away.
This production is adapted by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Netflix’s Adolescence) and directed by Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical, God of Carnage). Their collaboration reimagines Charles Dickens’ classic with a fresh theatrical vision. Originally staged at London’s Old Vic and now presented at PAC NYC, the show has garnered acclaim for its inventive design and emotionally resonant interpretation.
The immersive production surrounds the audience in the action, incorporating live music and traditional carols such as “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” and “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.” Winner of five Tony Awards, it brings a renewed focus on the story’s themes of compassion and transformation while offering a theatrical experience suitable for all ages.
