A young Latina chases big dreams in this Tony Award® nominated musical set in an East L.A. sewing factory.

Real Women Have Curves: The Musical tells the story of Ana García, a young Mexican-American woman with big dreams beyond her family’s small garment factory in East Los Angeles. When a high-stakes order for 200 dresses arrives, Ana finds herself caught between the pull of her own ambitions and the expectations of her mother, Carmen. Inside the sewing room, a multigenerational group of women share laughs, hardships, and their hopes for a better future, stitching together a portrait of community, culture, and identity.

This new Broadway musical is adapted from Josefina López’s 1990 play, which also inspired the acclaimed 2002 HBO film starring America Ferrera. Real Women Have Curves: The Musical features music by Grammy® Award-winning artist Joy Huerta of Jesse & Joy, and a book by Lisa Loomer (The Waiting Room), the show is directed and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Sergio Trujillo (Ain’t Too Proud, On Your Feet!).

Real Women Have Curves: The Musical explores themes of body image, self-worth, immigration, and empowerment with warmth and humor. Set entirely in one room but filled with expansive heart, the show celebrates the complexities of womanhood and the strength found in intergenerational bonds.

Real Women Have Curves: The Musical received 2 Tony Award® nominations in 2025, including Best Original Score & Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for Justina Machado.
