A luminous revival of August Wilson’s masterpiece—where strangers find healing, hope, and home.
Set in Pittsburgh in 1911, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone unfolds within the boardinghouse of Seth and Bertha Holly, who offer shelter to travelers in search of new beginnings. Their routine existence is disrupted by the arrival of Herald Loomis and his young daughter, whose presence stirs memories, longings, and unresolved histories. Against the backdrop of the Great Migration, August Wilson’s play examines a community caught between the weight of the past and the promise of transformation.
This new Broadway revival features Golden Globe® winner Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures, Empire) and Cedric the Entertainer (CBS’ The Neighborhood) as the Hollys, alongside Tony Award® nominee Joshua Boone (Skeleton Crew, The Outsiders) as Herald Loomis and Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Lackawanna Blues).
Directed by Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Debbie Allen (Grey’s Anatomy, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), the production brings together a celebrated creative team to reexamine Wilson’s enduring portrait of identity, belonging, and the search for freedom.
